About The Farewells

The Farewells are an acoustic/alt/pop duo from the greater Boston area. This husband/wife team has been playing together since 1999, and in 2002 released their debut album, The Shady Tree under their own name, Linnane.

Their sound has been compared to the Jayhawks, Neil Young, early Rolling Stones, and Tom Petty.

Peter Linnane

The former front man of local pop/rock band The Madcap Laughs, Peter has made a name for himself locally and internationally with his quality production, engineering and studio musicianship. He has played with, produced and recorded many local and national acts including The Willard Grant Conspiracy, Peter Bruntnell, Don Lennon, The Sheila Divine, The Weisstronauts, Chaz and the Motorbikes, and Frank Morey and his Band.

These days in addition to wearing all of these hats, Peter is now president of his composition company LinnaneMusic, making quality compositions for movies, documentaries, and commercials. He is a classically trained pianist that has mastered the art of the songwriting, crafting an impressive library of songs, melodies, and ambient music.

Samantha (Blake)Linnane

Formerly a member of New Hampshire garage/pop band The Oscillators, Samantha met Peter at Zippah Recording when the band was recording their second album. Shortly after that recording session Peter asked Samantha to sing on what was then his solo project, The Shady Tree.

Although she never again found a use for the hula-hooping skills she had perfected in The Oscillators, her tambourine and harmonizing skills have proven to be very handy.

Sean McNiff

Former Madcap Laughs' drummer, Sean will from time to time join Peter and Samantha on bass. He also does a bang up job of filling out the vocals with a third harmony.

Bob Nash

Member of many local bands, and owner of Wonka Recording Studio in Lowell, Ma. Bob will often join in on drums for shows.
